Steve works within the Market Research department at the newly formed Nutrien, based in Calgary, Alberta. He is also a partner in his family’s grain farm in southeast Saskatchewan.
At Nutrien, Steve and the Market Research work to understand what is currently happening in the global agricultural space and how it will affect the agricultural supply chain – to assist strategic decision-making. In the first half of the presentation, Steve will discuss global trends in the fertilizer, seed and chemical industries and the potential impacts of these trends to agricultural producers.
The root of Steve’s agricultural knowledge lies in his lifelong connection to the farm. After growing up on a dairy farm in Northern Alberta, his family exited the dairy industry in 2008 and purchased a grain farm in Saskatchewan which he actively helps to manage. In the second part of the presentation, Steve will remove his corporate hat, put on his farm hat, and give his thoughts on the industry at the farm level and what he and his family are doing to overcome the challenges facing agricultural producers.
Steve attained an MBA from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business and a Masters in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Alberta. Prior to, and during his tenure at Nutrien, Steve has held roles in consulting, finance, business development and sales – all within the agricultural space.
